( Dec 2005 ) Duesenberg Custom Coach has announced that the Duesenberg II® Murphy Coupe is being resurrected, built on a Ford drive train. They also announced that a "Duesenberg Torpedo® Coupe" was in the works with a Jan 2007 market introduction planned. See more here.
( Oct 2005 ) Gooding & Co. offered a 1933 Murphy bodied Disappearing Top SJ ( J498, Chassis 2518 ) for auction at the 2005 Pebble Beach Auction in August 2005. It sold for $2,200,000 (Lot 45.)
( Oct 2005 ) October also saw the sale of two more Duesenbergs at the Hershey Auction (Oct 5-8, 2005). A 1930 Murphy bodied long wheel base (LWB) Town Car ( J381, Chassis 2401 ) brought $660,000. J276, a LeGrande bodied Dual Cowl Phaeton brought $698,500. A second body was included in the sale -- the originally mounted Willoughby five passenger Berline with blind rear quarters. In "Duesenberg" Adler gives the chassis as 2296, a LWB chassis.
( Aug 2005 ) As reported by the Detroit Free Press, WDIV, and WXYZ, a 1929 Duesenberg was involved in a crash that was fatal to three of the five Duesenberg occupants. Husband, wife, and son of the Patton family were killed when the Duesenberg they were riding in rolled after a collision with a Volvo. Two daughters survived. Patton had celebrated the completion of the restoration of the Duesenberg by taking his family of five for a ride. Negligent homicide charges have been filed. ( Sept 2005 )
